My name is Xue (pronounced "shu-eh"). I am an accounting Ph.D. candidate at the University of Washington, Foster School of Business.
My research explores how emerging information intermediaries such as social media impact the way firms interact with stakeholders, using textual and video data. In my dissertation titled "Investor Political Ideology and Responses to Polarizing Boycotts", I examine the stock market response to polarizing social media boycotts, finding that this response is significantly negative on average, and even more so when more investors ideologically aligned with boycotters speak out on social media. Across all of my research, I aim to understand the intersection of business and key societal issues such as political polarization, worker empowerment, and social media misinformation.
I will be joining Indiana University as an Assistant Professor of Accounting in Fall 2025.
